rso4321@gmail.com that's an interesting observation. We teach the Sugar push with one hand and with both hands. In beginner class we start with two hands, but after moving beyond the beginner patterns we don't always keep the second hand, so it opens up this styling option a little bit more. Just another option to spice up your sugar push 😀

mg0815 Brian didn't invent this move, but it's a fun one! I've seen it taught many places (but that doesn't mean that everyone knows it). That's cool that it works for Rumba too! 😀

Caleb McAdams great question! Before the bota fogos, as the leader there is a compression that happens to send the partner away more so than the voltas. Voltas have continuous energy down the line and the bota fogos use the compression in and the away connection to go in and out while switching sides. Hope that helps!

Hey kaliha - this is why I/we think WCS is one of the hardest (but awesome) dance style to learn. Once you get the patterns down in your muscle memory the next layer is putting it to music. One of the things that I found helpful is to do a series of my patterns, perhaps a sugar push, side pass, inside turn and whip and then put on a slow song and try to do them all to music over and over. The more comfortable you get with those basic steps , the easier it is to add other moves or dance with a partner. Try this video below to help!

Hey kaliha - great point! We've seen it taught that way too, and it's not wrong. Both ways work, but from teaching for awhile and being around tons of different groups, our 'getting skinny' method of rotating a little sooner makes it more comfortable for both the leader and the follower. 😀

Great questions Jacques Powell! To answer question #1 - You can use the right had to 'guide' but we always hesitate using push. Whether its a single or double rotation there really isn't a lot of force or torque needed/required. #2 - As a follower, if I see that my leader is lifting the right hand/arm to prep for the outside I should be aware that I might need to disengage my left hand for the spin. There's not much that the leader can do on the right side. So the prep for the outside of lifting the hand to indicate the spin, at the correct time, is the most the leader can do.
