Hello from Ottawa!
Amanda and I looking to bridge the gap between foundation and "Fred & Ginger" fun. We have been taking lessons for three years. While our primary focus is social dancing, we have a deep appreciation for formal ballroom foundations. When we first started, Amanda eloquently summed up our ultimate goal:
“We want to dance like Fred and Ginger… but at the after-party! Fun, lovely, elegant but perhaps just a little off-balance - like being a little tipsy.” 😉
Technically, we are at an advanced Bronze level, but if we are being completely realistic, we are just now truly understanding the depth of the foundations.
We really want to shed the rigid "pattern-chasing" phase and take our dancing to the next level of connection and fluidity. To make that happen, we are stepping up our commitment.
On top of our weekly private lesson and group class, we are now heading into the studio 3 times a week for dedicated 45-to-60-minute practice sessions. Our immediate plan is to use these sessions to work through the new steps we are learning in class, and we intend to use the videos posted in the App to iron out the fine details of specific moves. (By the way, thank you so much for putting those videos out there! They are an incredible resource.)
We would love your advice: Do you have any structured practice plans you would recommend for a 45–60 minute session? We want to maximize our floor time so we aren't just mindlessly repeating patterns, but actually embedding the mechanics into our muscle memory. Looking forward to connecting with you all and learning from this community!
Cheers,
Andrew & Amanda
