So how do you feel about ACDA rules now pulling in Vienesse Waltz to the country dances?

Brian BDon't forget Salsa and bachata ;).  Seriously I'm glad to hear there are more events in the pipeline. I think there is another base of students out there, that would compete if there was, for lack of a better term, a happy medium dance comp.  Serious but not super serious with emphasis on fun

Yeah covid did a number on the dance world for sure.  I'd love to see more comps like this here in Texas vs the usually WCS J&J.

Here you go :).  https://riograndedanceclassic.com/  One reason I am going is all the J&Js for dance other than WCS.  Looking forward to the Rhythm division.

Richard So one thing I have known to help, although it s a little unorthodox, involves also counting out loud.  But basically, you take a road trip with someone who can stay on beat, and then just play music and count.  Set your Spotify list to shuffle and whatever type of music comes one, you just count it and if you get off your friend helps you find the count again.  I helped some do this for salsa on a 1.5 hour road trip, both ways, and by the end, he was nailing it.

Is that Mike Wagner?

Can they physiologically not hear the beat due to hearing issues or are they just not able to count the music on the proper beats?

I think for me it was posture.  I have had scoliosis and kyphosis since I was a teenager.  Martial Arts kept it from getting worse, but when I started dancing, I would think I'm standing straight from my POV but I would actually be lilting a bit to one side, which I would only notice when my teacher would actually correct it.

I try to teach my students to look at the moves that make up a pattern or routine as lego bricks or letters in the alphabet.  So yes I am going to show a routine that will be my creation to help them remember- but just like with legos they can move and rearrange the pieces.  I have also found that writing down the pattern helps you memorize it.  it can be challenging to actually write out the moves and that help cement it in your brain.
