I had a great weekend in Huntsville AL teaching the "Rocket Westies" group. From group classes to technique classes on connection and styling and even a competitors class. I got to meet a lot of people who follow our videos. The highlight for me was meeting Mary. She saw WCS and wanted to learn so she looked up a class but then found us on youtube and learned the basics BEFORE she went to her first class. She thought it was a big deal meeting Brian B from youtube but it was a BIGGER deal to me to know that I'm helping people get involved in dance without ever meeting them in person. The magic was... in this case I got to. Thanks to Mary, the Rocket Westies and my host Jen.
Just curious if anyone is at south bay fling in california. My teachers are doing night club workshop tomorrow and killed in two step tonight.
Any tips/advice for competing?
I am new to dance this year and have been taking lessons for months now. I am thinking about singing up for a ucwdc event in March as a newcomer. I’d appreciate any advice or anyone willing to share what their experience was like as a first time competitor.

Happy Friday everyone!
We try to bring the best Instructors to our events...
Which workshop instructors are your favorite? And for what styles?
Can't wait to hear your thoughts!! 😀
Sure would like to see a demo of Waterfall pattern in Waltz. I see the hand to Hand which starts in same Prom position but Follower does not cross back and forth Cheers
I just started taking some WCS lessons and one of the things I worked on was a 'left side spinning pass'
I wanted to see if you have a video of that and found a couple things (I'll link to below), but when I click on the video, it's just an image and doesn't provide an actual video.
Can you help w/ this when you get a minute?
Thanks!

Hey, Lance here from Bend, Oregon. In college I think I took almost all the dance classes offered (ballroom, jazz, country, east coast swing) and really liked it. So just started to taking lessons again but this time learning West Coast Swing (which I've never done before).Â
I found Brian's videos on YouTube VERY helpful so excited to be a a part of the community over here :)Â
Also, I came across Bloodstream by Ed Sheeran and really like dancing to this one.

Anything similar sounding that comes to mind for West Coast Swing?
Thanks!
Lance
The video "Rumba Sliding Doors" was just posted, but it is actually a waltz video, it should be moved.
Greg and Lynn Jenkins here from Alexandria, LA. It all started on a cruise ship! Seeing how much she enjoyed lessons on the ship, I came up with the ultimate birthday present for her.....dance lessons when we got home. I figured after a month of getting stepped on, she would be done, and I would still be the hero! Instead, I got hooked on dance. Sixteen years later we are still dancing. Unfortunately, we lost our instructor Randy to COVID. Thankfully we had many videos of things he taught us. We converted our game room into a dance studio and dance practice has become our exercise routine. We also host couples from our old group, "The Divas" (his name for us)Â once a week to practice what he taught us. Social Dance Online has been the best we have found for further development of our dance skills. Thank you all for helping us improve our dancing. We continue to cruise and after a night or two we are..... "The Dancers".
