counting straight 8's means counting the music, not the patterns. So if you did just sugar pushes the first one would be counts 1-6. The second sugar push would start on 7,8, 1&2, 3&4. Then the third sugar push would start 5,6,7&8,1&2. 4th sugar push would start 3,4,5&6,7&8. 

It can be hard to do, but it helps with musicality.
